Northleigh House

Location: Chichester
Description: Carbon neutral upgrade to existing office building
Start / Completion: 2004
Notes:

Northleigh House is an existing local authority office building in the historic heart of Chichester. It urgently needed improvement. Its design was deep-plan, and required mechanical ventilatation and electrical heating and cooling. It suffered from 'sick building syndrome', which is endemic in this type and age of building. To counter this, we proposed a naturally ventilated design, with sustainable heating and power supply. We also provided measures to improve energy efficiency, daylight design and, most importantly, the environment for its users. The end result was a positive contribution to the townscape. We achieved the improvements and renovation without any structural demolition.
