The PortZED development comprises six
buildings each consisting of affordable and private housing sitting
above a canopy which protects a range of office, retail and
recreational activities.
The six buildings are connected by a new pedestrian deck promenade
spanning over retail warehousing, car parking, and a car pool.
The development achieves around 270 homes/ ha or 722 hab rooms / ha
with its current unit mix, and will show how to reconcile denser urban
regeneration with the Code 6 zero carbon specification that will become
mandatory by 2016, at the same time as providing a permeable public
face to the proposed new port development.
PortZED is a collaborative project with Brighton based Alan Phillips
Architects and Bohogreen
