Low Rise
/ High Density
As the demand for housing grows sites within urban and suburban areas
are becoming more precious. This combined with the need to maximise value
from any given site and the ZED remit of paying for the increased costs
of building to a low carbon specification mean that an increase in density
is needed for most developments. Obviously any developer will seek to
maximise use of a site to see a greater return by selling or letting more
units. ZEDfactory does not advocate over-densification but our aim is
to increase the density on urban sites without straining existing resources
like water, sewerage and transport infrastructure. This can be achieved
by building ZED schemes that do not have the demand of typical buildings
and their residents have the option of living a lower impact life - The
schemes shown here have maximised density, been built with the full support
of the local authorities and provide essential housing in urban areas
for housing Associations and key community groups.
