Guiding Principles of ZED Projects Ltd

Company philosophy
ZED Projects Ltd. is a developer of low-energy, low-carbon buildings. Its sister organisation, Bill Dunster architects ZEDfactory Ltd. ('BDa ZEDfactory'), is an architect's practice which specialises in the design of eco-villages and Zero (fossil) Energy Developments (ZEDs).

ZED Projects Ltd.'s ethos is 'ethical development'. That means that we build homes, offices and community buildings which are both desirable and good value, and where the cost of construction is invested in good quality, energy-efficient architecture.

The company has been set up because:
Our experience is that development companies are primarily interested in profit, and that the quality of building design is a secondary consideration. Most volume housing is built to minimal construction and space standards.

The sustainable brief is inevitably more expensive that the non-sustainable brief to which most developers build. By adopting policies that minimise cost, such as land-partnering and supply-chain management, ZED Projects Ltd. can effectively and successfully compete with traditional developers.

Our guiding principles
Directors will jointly agree which projects to pursue, bearing in mind that there must be a workable business case for carrying out any development.
